Let the Journey Begin

Back to school!

Recently I was speaking with some parents who are preparing for the departure of their sons and daughters for college this coming week. It made me pause and wonder . . . Why do we reserve this idea of furthering our education to only our younger parishioners? When did we decide that what we know about our faith is sufficient?

To address a faith life that is without end, I offer the following:

St. Maximilian Kolbe in Marmora will be presenting “Genesis to Jesus.” This 7 – week series, developed by Dr. Scott Hahn, will give “Sacred Scripture’s” big picture. Specifically, looking at how God’s Covenant plan for us is made known in history and how that plan affects us here and now. The series presenter will be Joe Sosnowsky. Join us Wednesday evenings 7:30pm to 9:00pm starting September 11th. Registration is free (optional workbooks will be available at cost). For more information or to register, call Joe at 856-371-2008 (or email jsosnow@comcast.net .)

Another offering is the RCIA which stands for Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. It is the Catholic Church’s way of initiating new members into the faith and strengthening the faith of those who seek to grow in their relationship with God. RCIA is much more than a program.

RCIA is an opportunity:

  • For those who have not been baptized.
  • For those who have been baptized, but have little affiliation with, and/or training in the Catholic religion.
  • For those who want to learn and ask questions about the Catholic faith.
  • For those who are searching.

Through weekly gatherings, those attending gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of the Catholic faith, tradition, rituals, and prayer life. All are welcome, and there is no obligation to make any commitment to become Catholic.

I ask you to consider joining us this year and to consider inviting others.

Sometimes, those of us who have been Catholic our whole lives forget to offer this information to others who may interested in becoming Catholic. We just assume that if they are interested, they will find their own way. However, extending an invitation to relatives, friends, and neighbors, in a gentle way, might be just the opportunity that they are waiting for.

The first gathering is for information and inquiry, not commitment. It will take place on Wednesday, September 25, at 7:00PM in classroom two at Resurrection Parish Church. If you have any questions, please call me at (609) 390-0664 and leave your name and number. I will return your call as soon as possible.

Thank you for all you do for our parish families.
