June 18, 2017—A View from the Rectory Window

Happy Father’s Day: The story is told of a father of five children who came home with a toy. He summoned his children and asked which of them should be given the present. “Who is the most obedient one here? Who never talks back to Mom and does everything that Mom says to do?” He inquired. There were a few seconds of silence, and then all of the children said in one accord: “You play with it Daddy!

Happy Father’s Day to all fathers, grandfathers, godfathers and stepfathers! May your love radiate effectively the love of God to your family and those whose lives you touch! God’s choicest blessings be yours in abundance. This weekend, we keep our fathers, living and deceased, in our prayers.

To one of our father’s, Bill Brewer, congratulations. On June 7, Bill, who is in formation to be ordained to the permanent diaconate was entrusted with the ministry of Acolyte by Bishop Dennis Sullivan.

An Acolyte is appointed to aid the deacon and to minister to the priest at the altar and as a special minister to give Holy Communion to the faithful at Mass and to the sick. Acolytes may also expose the Eucharist for public adoration in the absence of a priest or deacon. During the institution ceremony, candidates are reminded that they will have a special role in the Church’s ministry, since the summit and source of the Church’s life is the Eucharist, which builds up the Christian community and makes it grow. The candidates are asked to show a sincere love for Christ’s Mystical Body, God’s holy people and especially for the weak and the sick.

Please keep Bill in your prayers.
